Machiavelli "The end justifies the means"

Machiavelli once said "The end justifies the means. " Only he never said the media were to ignore the others,  ruining the lives of others, being cruel, and so on. He just said that an end jusifies the medium used but doesn't say what that means nor the end. Because when we use certain means we can not only reach the end we wanted as well as other purposes. Purposes which are not always good. He didn't said that if you reach your objective, it means you used the right medium. I interpret it only as every medium we use is justified by us by our objectives. So the end justify the medium. But we can use a bad medium and reach the end. As we can use a good medium and reach the end. It's up to us to choose.
People are misinterpreting the words of Machiavelli.
What is a shame because we can all achieve our goals without hurting or reach others in  a negative way. Often we can even help others. But few are those who are interested in this because most people only care about themselves.
